A Winter Health Tonic

Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Garlic, Ginger, Lemon Juice and Honey

This is my first blog posting on my new website so this is largely an experiment to see how effective (or not !) are my computer skills. I have a fear of pressing the wrong button on my laptop resulting in spontaneous combustion or some such other disaster. Wish me luck !

I was at a classical concert recently and sitting next to a medical doctor. We were both masked. I pay careful attention when in enclosed spaces because I have an immune compromised stepson. The doctors comments were: “We may be tired of Covid but Covid is not tired of us.”

Quite apart from the importance of frequent hand-washing and social distancing, there are things that you can do to avoid getting sick. Part of building a strong immune system is the importance of eating a healthy diet (think of it as the right octane fuel for your body) and regular exercise. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, we talk about defensive (Wei) Qi. If your defences are in place, then your chance of staying well are that much greater.

The following is a recipe that I was given down in Mexico at the Centro Holistico where I teach shiatsu therapy. The gentle simmer takes the pungent flavour out of the mixture, so you can drink this on a daily basis and still keep all your friends!

Preferably use organic fruit and vegetables for this recipe:

1/2 cup lemon juice
1⁄2 cup garlic juiced – this is about 4 whole garlic
1⁄2 cup fresh ginger root juiced
1⁄2 cup Bragg's organic apple cider vinegar

Simmer for 10 minutes and then add 1⁄2 cup of honey
Drink 3 tablespoons on an empty stomach every morning. Enjoy....good health!
